Renewally ("the app") is a subscription tracker for iPhone made by Kekayan Nanthakumar. This policy explains what data the app handles and how. In short: your data stays on your iPhone. The developer does not run any servers that receive it, and the app has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking.
Data stored on your device
The subscriptions, charges, reminders and settings you create are stored locally on your iPhone. They are not sent to the developer or to any third party. If you use the app's export feature, a file is created that you choose where to save or share. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Gmail (Google user data)
Connecting Gmail is optional. If you connect it, the app asks Google for read-only access to your Gmail (the gmail.readonly scope) so it can find receipts and subscription emails.
- What is accessed: the app searches your mailbox for messages likely to be receipts, invoices or subscription notices, and reads the sender, subject, date and text body of those messages.
- How it is used: messages are processed entirely on your iPhone to suggest subscriptions (name, price, billing cycle, next renewal date) for you to review. Nothing is added until you confirm it.
- What is stored: email bodies are not stored. For subscriptions you add, the app keeps the Gmail message ID, sender and subject on your device so it can show where a suggestion came from and avoid showing the same email twice. It also keeps the IDs of emails you dismiss.
- Sharing: Gmail data is never sent to the developer, never shared with or sold to third parties, never used for advertising, and never used to train AI or machine-learning models. The only network requests involving Gmail go directly from your iPhone to Google.
- Credentials: the access tokens Google issues are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.
- Disconnecting: you can disconnect Gmail in the app's Settings, which deletes the stored tokens. You can also revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Renewally's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Camera, photos, microphone and speech
If you scan a receipt or use voice entry, the app uses your camera, photo library, microphone or Apple's speech recognition. Text recognition and speech transcription run on your device, and images and audio are not uploaded or kept.
Notifications
Renewal reminders are scheduled locally on your iPhone. No push notification server is involved.
Currency exchange rates
To convert prices between currencies, the app downloads public exchange rates from Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.dev) and the open-source currency-api (served from jsdelivr.net and currency-api.pages.dev). These requests contain no personal data, but like any web request they reveal your IP address to those services.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
